Gearing up for a new year 🎉

New year, same great Bear family. Learn more about what we've been up to.

a quick reminder Visit UNC and Campus Commons this Spring. Check out our visit options.

Dear {{Salutation}} {{First-Name}},

We hope the new year has brought as much welcome change for you as it has for our office at UNC. We have a new president on board, exciting curricular conversations happening across campus, two of our NCAA D-I teams sitting atop their conferences, oh… and a brand new office in our sparkling Campus Commons building (and only steps from the Pie Café).

Among other news worth sharing:

  • We’re #3 — During Colorado’s Free App Day in November, UNC received 3,905 applications. According to a recent report from the state, that was third only to our friends in Boulder and Fort Collins.
  • Celebrating our Honorable Scholars — Earlier this month, we celebrated some of our most qualified admitted students at our annual Honorable Scholars Luncheon. This is always one of our favorite events, as we get to meet and honor these students while also telling them more about our institution, honors program and more.
  • A building worth seeing — It’s worth repeating. The new Campus Commons is a building we’d love to show you. It’s built as a gateway to campus for visitors, but also as a gallery for featuring our nationally recognized musicians, vocalists and visual artists, and a student services hub. Should you make it to Greeley, we’d love to show it to you, buy you a pie (no, really!) and catch up. Please call us if we can ever do just that.

Future Teacher Conference and Entrepreneurial Challenge coming up

In the coming months, we’ll be welcoming hundreds of high school students to campus to participate in two of our most popular state-wide events: the fourth annual Future Teachers Conference and the Monfort College of Business Entrepreneurial Challenge. If you have students, teachers or administrators interested in either, we invite you to share the links below and our advice that they make plans to join us.

Hats off to Cherokee Trail High School

Wave of the hat to Shondra Carpenter, counselor at Cherokee Trail High School, who we saw pop up in a US News & World Report story on January 2 about advising students on the pros and cons of AP classes. We just recently heard from a CTHS graduate on campus, junior Dillion Duffrold, about how he found UNC. It was, of course, a tip from his counselor there. Good reminder about how much you all matter to those students and to us.

We’d love your thoughts on a new event that’s really (honestly) not about us.

In a few months, we’re planning to host high school juniors and seniors on campus for a special career- and college major-focused event. This event will be less about UNC and much more “good-to-know wherever you go!” In the interests of truly making this an event that helps students and families make the best decision possible when picking a college home, we’d love your feedback. What can we offer, do or try to be most helpful to them? Send us a few ideas. We’ll owe you another one. Thanks! (You can send them directly to Sean.Broghammer@unco.edu).

And finally…

A UNC professor just spoke with KUNC radio about how to handle those new year resolutions. Feeling uncertain about your chances of success? Give it a listen or read.

Back in December, we distributed a video featuring our six (yes, six!) student a capella groups performing a holiday mashup they wrote for the occasion. If you missed it, you might want to have a look. (And yes, that is our new president dancing at the end.)
